The 19th of January saw CIOB NOVUS Hampshire members, along with a selection of Southampton Solent University technology faculty, host a dissertation workshop for final year students at the university. The aim of this workshop was to facilitate introductions to industry professionals to support the students primary research for their final year project dissertations. The evening was described as “a complete success” by one faculty member, who claimed that the evening was thoroughly thought provoking for the students not just in terms of their research studies but also as an insight into life as a construction professional.
NOVUS Hampshire and those at the university are now planning similar events on the back of this resounding success and look forward to working with one another.

Last saturday saw members of the Evolution5 team, along with partners and friends, eagerly attend the south coast football derby between Southampton FC and Brighton and Hove Albion at St Mary’s football ground.
As well as an thoroughly entertaining game of football, excellent food and hospitality were enjoyed by all in the football club’s corporate suite. This, coupled by a euphoric atmosphere created by both sets of fans made for a great day out for all in attendance (apart from the Brighton fans it must be said). The next corporate hospitality day at St Mary’s is very much looked forward to!

The Hampshire Centre’s 10th Annual Construction Industry Dinner 2011 was held at the prestigious De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton. Those in attendance and sat at the top table included; the Mayor of Southampton Councilor Terry Matthews and wife Lesley, CIOB Vice Chairman Pat Feighery, guest speaker Professor Gervase Phinn, and not forgetting Evolution5’s Commercial Director Darren Foy, the RICS Chairman for the Hampshire Local Authority accompanied by his wife Sandra.
Professor Phinn’s speech was entertaining and engaging throughout and his anecdotes of the education sector struck home with a number of the guests in attendance.
All in all the dinner was a great success and the 11th Annual Dinner next year is eagerly awaited.

Isabelle Fitmaurice-O’Neill has joined the Evolution5 team to experience some of what it is like to work for a construction consultancy company. She will be with us for two weeks, the first week Isabelle will be shadowing me (Charlotte) in my role as Quantity Surveyor / Cost Consultant, and Jamie in his role as Project Manager in the second week.
Isabelle is bright and enthusiastic, fitting into the company well. We hope that she will be able to learn a lot from this experience and gain an understanding of the ethos of our company. We hope that the early morning starts aren’t too off-putting! and that our ambition for work to be enjoyable will give Isabelle a good introduction to world of work.

“Charlotte Francis: Hello all, this is my first time blogging as a new employee and team member of Evolution5, and am delighted to be blogging about the recent achievements of my colleagues.”
We would like to congratulate both Chris Moss and Jamie Barrett for their fantastic achievements this last month.
Chris has achieved membership of the Institute of Chartered Builders (MCIOB)
Jamie has achieved membership of the Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS)
To become a member of these professional bodies they have worked extremely hard on the production of the required documentation and presentation, notwithstanding the intense interview and questioning.
We are very proud, it is an excellent achievement, congratulations!

Charlotte is a qualified and knowledgeable Quantity Surveyor with good experience in delivering cost management services to public sector clients. She has particularly established good relationships with many healthcare clients including working on Procure21 and LIFT procured projects.
She is enrolled on the RICS APC to gain Chartered status as a Quantity Surveyor and will seek to acquire this qualification in the next 12 months.
Charlotte’s new role involves developing business opportunities in the healthcare sector, marketing the business and providing cost management services to one of E5’s key clients on a framework of high profile projects.
If you feel you are able to further help Charlotte in her new role, or know of any business opportunities that might be of interest to Evolution5 then please feel free to contact us – details can be found at www.evolution5.ltd.uk

Evolution5 entered two teams in this years CIOB Dorset Golf Challenge, which was a very entertaining and enjoyable event. The White Team comprised Dominic Satterly, Chris Moss and Darren Foy and the Black Team was Jamie Barrett, Andrew Ormston and Mike Harris. All playing to handicap 28 it came as no surprise that neither team posed a threat to the competition.
Highlight of the day – 18th hole third shot on to the green, Andy Ormston and Jamie Barrett’s golf balls are within 2m of one anothers. AO says to JB “I hope I don’t overhit this shot into the Clubhouse” JB responds “no chance of hitting a pitching wedge that far, I can’t”. AO hits his shot, blading the ball, which didn’t rise any higher than a metre, straight through the green and hit the window to the golf shop making a horrendous bang”. AO had to make the walk of shame past the golfers sat on the 19th hole and get his ball from outside the Clubhouse and Golf Shop. CLASSIC
